Leonary Nemoy's Final Voyage
posted Saturday May 1, 2010 by Scott Ertz
Everyone on the planet seems to know who Lenoard Nemoy is, and it is entirely thanks to the success of Star Trek and everything involved with it. It is a career setting that has been constant since the premiere in 1966, but after 44 years in Star Trek and 60 years in the industry, Nimoy is calling it quits.
In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Nimoy said,
I want to get off the stage. Also, I don't think it would be fair to Zachary Quinto. He's a terrific actor, he looks the part, and it's time to give him some space. And I'm very flattered the character will continue. I've been doing this professionally for 60 years. I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I've had a great, great time.
I guess that means we won't be seeing another double Spock in the next installment of the Star Trek series, scheduled for Summer 2012. He also just finished filming his final performance as Dr. William Bell for Fringe, so don't expect to be seeing him there much longer, either.
The only other place we have really seen him of late has been sci-fi/comic conventions. Unfortunately, the events that he has called "a love fest" will soon be a thing of the past as well. He said that this weekend's Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo "could be the last go-round for that too."
So, what will the 79-year-old actor/director/writer/photographer do with his time now that the acting thing is past? He will be focusing on his photography, another skill he excels at. He has an upcoming exhibition in Massachusetts, among others.
We wish him all the luck in the world with his upcoming projects and, I can't believe I get to say this, the opportunity to live long and prosper.
