Apple Upgrades Download Limit, Do We Panic or Praise?

I guess all the talk from AT&T and Apple about fixing their 3G and bandwidth issues is finally leading to some action being taken. We reported back in December about Apple launching an app that will allow you to report when your iPhone drops a call or loses reception. Now, Apple has upped their download limit across the board, from 10MB to 20MB, for their 3G network.

The upgrade is coming off the heels of several new additions to the iPhone, including Apple's late, but long overdue arrival of the ability to make calls using VoiP applications and seeing the Slingbox video-streaming app.

Several questions, however, arise from these upgrades. First, is the threat of a clogged network and bandwidth limitations finally over? Signs could point to the panic ending in the near future. The ability to now download up to 20MB shows that AT&T and Apple are both confident in the network's performance. It also opens up the iPad's capability, because the increase affects not only the iTunes store, but the app store as well.

However, this could also just be another face value move by Apple. What I mean is that the company could simply by putting on a show for us. By increasing the bandwidth limitation, they put at ease the minds of the skeptics, who have been saying for months that bandwidth suddenly disappears when being used in large metropolitan areas, like New York, San Francisco and Miami, and also during peak usage times.

Of course, the reasoning is all speculation, and time will tell what the results will be. The fact remains that 20MB is a lot of memory for any song, video, app, game or podcast that you want to download. So all you iPhone users, I encourage you to try it out and definitely let us know how the increase is either boosting or affecting your signal and coverage!
