Play your PSP on your HDTV! How SWEET!

With the era of high definition gaming fully upon us, it was only a matter of time before someone would think of a way to take that technology to the portable gaming systems. It looks as though the folks over at Lenkeng, a Chinese retailer, have found a solution, at least for the PSP. For models 2000 and above, the LKV8000 PSP to HDMI Converter with Full Screen Display on HDTV will do exactly what the long item description says it will.

Before this box, when hooked up to an HDTV, the PSP would only display on part of the screen, transmitting in its native 480p. The LKV8000 takes advantage of your larger, widescreen display and comes with all the necessary cables and equipment to upconvert your output to 720p via an HDMI connection!

Yes, I know, there are HDTV units out there that have component (I'd hope so) and VGA connections. And yes, I realize some of them even have zoom or scaling features to fill the screen. Keep in mind, that does not mean it will output in 720p. Also, most consumers now are looking for that all-digital signal or connection.

To make things more exciting, Lenkeng realized that upconversion can sometimes cause a jitter effect on a larger screen, and has applied a 3D Wavelet Video Coding technology in the device, to compensate for fast motion that is expected for gaming, all while keeping rich RGB colors intact.

No price on it, as nobody onshore has picked up on this, and it seems that Lenkeng owns the rights to the patent on this product. So we'll see what happens. Either way, the idea is cool and it's definitely something any gamer is going to want to pick up to play their PSP games on a badass TV while vacationing in the Hamptons.
