Square Enix Thinks Outside the Box

Finally, we have some news tidbits of information about the ever so secretive Final Fantasy XIV! It seems there could be some big changes heading our way. Anyone familiar with MMO's knows there ain't nothing wrong with a little bump and grind and if there is then well, suck it. Not anymore however as that convention is about to change. Recently, the producer for FFXIV Hiromichi Tanaka, said that this game is going to be leaving behind the traditional MMO conventions.
Nobuaki Komoto, Final Fantasy XIV Director, said,
We believe the main factor behind Final Fantasy XI's lasting appeal is the job system. However, the system {in Final Fantasy XIV} will become something completely different. The focus here will be on weapons. Your weapon will determine how you play. Your weapon will determine how you fight.
Did someone say "job system?!?" Did someone say FF Tactics?!? That was one of the best FF games ever! They may be onto something here so it will be interesting to follow the development further. Sadly, at this time there is still no date for an upcoming beta.
Is this new job and weapons system appealing? We want your 2 cents right here.
