Thailand's Schools Closed - Game Parlors Open
posted Monday Jul 13, 2009 by Scott Ertz
Last week many news agencies reported that the Prime Minister of Thailand considered shutting down the country's game parlors in an attempt to slow the spread of swine flu in the country. It turns out there was no such order, however they are recommending that they shut down anyway. On the other hand, he did shut down the schools for 2 weeks. School officials have not been happy with this result, saying:
We have been blamed by society (which is saying) that we're the cause of more infections. We want the Public Health Ministry to study (acquiring the virus infection) on a case-by-case basis, clearly find a pattern of those infected with the virus and persons who have had contact with them in order to conclude it in the form of scientific data.
There is no real way to know exactly where the disease is spreading from, so I am OK with the government keeping kids away from possible hazards. On the other hand, with schools closed, my guess is these kids will be spending a lot of time in the game parlors for the next 2 weeks.
What do you think? Helpful decision or just a change of venue for the spreading of disease?
