NCSoft to Reveal New Game

Ever since NCsoft announced that they would be attending gamescom 2011 and were going to "make some world exclusive announcements," the Interwebz have been trying to figure out what it could be. The prevailing theory seems to have been there would finally be a release date for Guild Wars 2.

This week, however, NCsoft announced through a letter from Executive Producer Jeremy Gaffney that the big announcement will not have anything to do with any existing IP, but instead will be the game the guys over at Carbine Studios have been working on. While we may not know a lot about it, we do know that it is a new sci-fi MMO IP.

Want more information that that? Hit the break.

Carbine is pretty serious about this project. They have recruited team members from all over the gaming landscape. With team members from City of Heroes, EverQuest 2, Fallout, Pirates of the Burning Sea, Vanguard, Warhammer Online and World of Warcraft, there is enough talent at Carbine to produce a truly great game. Even their reasoning for making the game, as expressed in the blog post, points to a great game for gamers by gamers,

First and foremost: we're a company of gamers. Gamers as developers, with most of us having put some hard time developing titles you may recognize. Lots of MMOs, lots of online games.

We also play the heck out of games we didn't make. We tell our significant others we play for "research." Sometimes, it's even true.

But mostly, it's because we love this stuff.

We have a number of ideas we've developed over time about what we think is important in gaming - we think it's about letting players play how they want, when they want, and with whom they want.

We're gamers that want MORE out of online gaming, and we're all ready for the Next Big MMO. Don't get us wrong - we're not dissing existing games. We can't; like we said, most of us have helped make them.

But we think we've learned enough to make some dramatic steps forward. We have developed some new ways of making online games; games that can adapt to you instead of the other way 'round.

I know, I know - you may have heard it all before. And we're not here to feed you a bunch of hype - that stuff kills us as much as it kills you.

The good news is that we will get our first look at the game at gamescom in Germany and then again at PAX Prime.
