Sirius XM Satellite 2.0, Now with DVR?

Sirius XM 2.0: A bigger, better music experience with 60% more satellite per satellite. That sounds cool, right? Well, then this news should sound even better. We have received word from a few sources that we should see Sirius XM Satellite 2.0 this fall, and the service will sport larger storage space on portable units, a DVR-like recording ability and some sort of on-demand features.

Right now due to licensing, as awful as it is, you can't record your favorite song or content, so if you miss out on your favorite programming due to whatever reasons, it's QQ for you. However, with the talk of an on-demand service, your problem may be solved. Various sports, talk radio, comedy and even music performances would be available for you to select from.

Want to learn more? We got the scoop after the break.

Obviously on-demand would work for certain things, but what about your usual 4p-6p DJ you like to hear but you can't because of a work schedule change? You'd need to be able to record that particular station when you want to. Don't you worry, word is also getting around about a DVR feature. Currently, the XMP3i has a limited capability of recording content, but Satellite 2.0 should make that readily available for a wider selection of devices, without the need for crazy adapters (we hope).

Sirius has always been about finding exactly what certain demographics want, and then delivering that to them on a certain channel. That all could change soon, as we've heard Satellite 2.0 would have two-way Internet connectivity, which would allow users to rock to a personalized music channel. Just like Pandora or last.fm, you would be able to vote on songs that you like and others that you don't to tailor the listening experience to what you want to hear. Rumor has it that you'd also be able to skip songs.

This is a perfect way to once again regain the step ahead of the competition. For a while, it was only Sirius/XM that you could get in cars, but now that's changing with Pandora and other app integration. So for Sirius XM to now copy the others like the others have copied them is a way to get back some of their foothold. We haven't heard what the prices on these things might be, but we can safely guess that there would be an additional fee for these cool add-ons. Would you pay the monthly fee plus more for them, though? Cable customers have shown they like the features but don't want to overpay and shell out outrageous fees for some of these services. Will Sirius XM fall the same route? I sure hope not.
