The Pirates Are Caught

Do you ever visit The Pirate Bay? Of course you do. And so does almost everyone else on the planet. It is on the top 100 visited sites list consistently. That is all about to come to an end, as TPB has been bought.

Real-world business Global Gaming Factory X has purchased TPB for $7.7 million. That is a lot of money for a legit company to purchase an illegal file-sharing website. The bad news is that they know it, and have a plan to make that money back.

CEO of Global Gaming Hans Pandeya, said:

We would like to introduce models which entail that content providers and copyright owners get paid for content that is downloaded via the site. The Pirate Bay site is among the top 100 most visited Internet sites in the world. However, in order to live on, The Pirate Bay requires a new business model, which satisfies that requirements and needs of all parties, content providers, broadband operators, end users, and the judiciary.

Eek. Making money from TPB, plus making content providers happy? That seems to spell the end for TPB, or at least the end of its ranking in the top 100 sites on the Internet.
