Some Details on The Avengers

In January we talked about some casting announcements and rumors for the Avengers movie franchise. One of those rumors was that Jeremy Renner was in talks to play Hawkeye, the purple-masked archer of the team. Since then, his career has changed a little bit and he is now a much bigger name than he was even 4 months ago.

This is because of the success of his last film, The Hurt Locker for which he was nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards. The fact that he didn't win does not change the fact that his nomination brought his name into the public consciousness. It also helps that the film itself won several awards, including Picture of the Year.

Timothy "Dum Dum" Dug an has been cast as well for the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and The Incredible Hulk animated series actor Neil McDonough has been tapped to portray the character. The importance of this is that the character's first appearance in the Marvel comic Universe was at the same time as Nick Fury. Nick Fury, as we all know, is played by Samuel L. Jackson in the movie universe.

In the present-day timeline that we are accustomed to, Fury has already formed SHIELD. In the Captain America timeline, however, Fury led a group of commandos to fight the Nazis (with both eyes, mind you). So, the inclusion of Dum Dum might indicate that we could see Sam L fighting Hitler, and it just doesn't get too much better than that.
