New Drug Scare Tactics

New Drug Scare Tactics

It's back to school, and you know what that means - time for scare tactics from the local news affiliates to get you to watch the 11 o'clock news instead of going to sleep so you can wake up in the morning and get your kids ready for school! Today's story comes to us from the local ABC affiliate in Phoenix, Arizona.

The report claims that drug use triples in middle school. How many of you remember a drug problem in elementary school? I don't even remember a single situation where an administrator even considered the possibility of someone having drugs, so triple that isn't really a scary stat for me.

Videogame Candybars

This was sent to me this week by our part-time PLuGHiTz Live! Radio co-host, Lisa. I felt I just had to share it.

Games Radar made a collection of fake candy bars based on videogames. I have my favorite on the right. Tell me what your favorites are in the comments section.

Depression is from Videogames

posted Saturday Aug 22, 2009 by Scott Ertz

Are you in your thirties, overweight and depressed? According to a new study conducted by the CDC, chances are, that's you. Congratulations. The study claims gamers have "lower extraversion, consistent with research on adolescents that linked video-game playing to a sedentary lifestyle and overweight status, and to mental-health concerns."

The study also showed a variance between gamer males and females. Males tend to be more overweight, and females tend to be more depressed and generally in poor health.

RUMOR: 360 Elite Price Drop

When it comes to price drop rumors, I usually wait until I have at least 2 credible sources before I get excited. Well, now I do. Last week, I stumbled across a picture of an ad for an Elite for $299. Now, that was pretty exciting, but it was the first I had heard of it, and with all the rumors about the PS3 (which turned out to be true), it was inevitable that we would hear some talk about the 360 as well.

This week, however, Kotaku uncovered an image of a Walmart "rollback" on Elite, now $299. Now we have some credibility. Now, it is currently the 22nd of August, and the date of the ad is shown to be August 30th, so I assume we will hear official word from Microsoft in the next few days.

Sony Confirms the Rumors - PS3 Slim

It's official, Sony announced this week the existence of the long rumored PlayStation 3 Slim. The impressive part is that the images we have been seeing over the past few weeks were mostly correct. That almost never happens. So, now, let's get to the details, shall we?

The new console is black (of course) and has a 120GB hard drive. They will be available here in the States, as well as Europe and most of Asia starting September 1st (Japan on the 3rd), and will retail for $299. Yes, you heard me, a PS3 for the price of a 360. Sony Computer Entertainment had this to say about the new device:

Best Buy Price Limbo: How Low They Won't Go but How Low They Are

My fellow upstream contributor and co-host Nick recently wrote an article about Best Buy and their yellow clearance tag of a brand image. Well Nick I'm sorry to say that in this story they don't live up to your expectations or the expectations of some very upset customers.
