Microsoft to Expand Xbox TV Service?

Microsoft to Expand Xbox TV Service?

Ever since the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2009, Microsoft has been making a big deal about wanting the Xbox 360 to be the center of your entertainment experience in the livingroom. With 2009's introduction of Xbox Live Party and the Primetime channel, Facebook and Twitter and of course Netflix and 2010's introduction of ESPN and enhanced Netflix capabilities, they have been living up to that commitment.

Well, Microsoft wants to take a major step forward with the project in the next 12 months by adding full television stations to their already massive online community. They are looking to go after services like Hulu Plus and Google TV, who already have a following. However, Xbox Live is the most active online community, so it could be pretty easy if they do it right.

Super Talent RAIDDrive For USB 3.0

Super Talent RAIDDrive For USB 3.0

As far as flash drives go you can certainly say that the Super Talent USB 3.0 RAIDDrive is impressive and not just because of the many capital letters that scream "performance!" at you like a Powerthrist commercial. As the name subtly suggests this isn't a mere flash drive, its a RAIDDrive, that consists of 2 SSDs (Solid State Drives) in a Raid 0 configuration. USB 2.0 would not be able to keep up with the 371MB/sec read speeds and 185MB/sec write speeds which is why you will need USB 3.0 and their UAS Protocol driver.

Kinect's Joy Ride Works Without You Working

Kinect's <i>Joy Ride</i> Works Without You Working

There's not much I can say about this. I ran across a video from a YouTuber by the name of GELTONZ who posted a gameplay clip of him playing Joy Ride for the Kinect. Normal enough, you would think, except he showed himself sitting down, keeping his hands still, not moving at all, and the game was being played for him!

It appears the game has some sort of auto-steering correct feature, I guess to tailor to all age groups, as after racing 3 laps of nearly identical racing lines, he placed third out of eight. He didn't even move! What blows me away is the fact that he has to exert no energy other than sitting down and keeping perfectly still and the game played it all for him, steering and acceleration included. Weird. Can anyone explain this?

Rumor has it that this game could be the Gran Turismo 5 killer, if the discs that shipped actually have content on it.

Swastikas are Not the Way to Win on Xbox Live

Swastikas are Not the Way to Win on Xbox Live

Microsoft's community czar, Stephen Toulouse, has had an interesting career. It seems he steps in it every time he appears in the public, either in person or in writing. I believe we all remember the gamer who was banned for living in a town named Fort Gay.

This week's faux pas comes to us via Twitter. He was asked,

Hey, I'm not a genocidal hater of Jews but I really love the design of the swastika because its actually used by numerous religions, can I use it as my Call Of Duty: Black Ops logo? SWASTIKAS ARE AWESOME.

Google Goes Apache on the Wave

Google Goes Apache on the Wave

Google Wave is not as dead as we expected. Google and Novell have submitted to the Apache Software Foundation that they take over the majority of codebase from Google Wave. While the move is a bit odd, it isn't a huge surprise.

After shutting down Google Wave earlier this year, Google decided to make its source code available to the open source community. We just were not sure exactly how it was going to go from an internal project to the Wave in a Box they wanted.

Hit the break to find out how this is any different from just releasing the source code.

Gran Turismo 5 Is Finally Here... Well, The Boxes Are

<i>Gran Turismo 5</i> Is Finally Here... Well, The Boxes Are

The 5 year wait for the 5th release in the epic Gran Turismo franchise might very well have come to an end. The game has shipped out to retailers and there is even some online game play footage. But let's not pop the champaign just yet. Anyone who has followed the franchise at all will not be able to kick their Perkaset addictions until it's actually in their PS3 and being played, by them. Especially after the recent release date shenanigans that Sony and Polyphony have pulled. Also, as Scott mentioned to me, we saw footage of Spore 2 years before the game actually released.

To see some of the game play footage and the hilarious Sony commercial hit the break.
