It's a Bird! It's a Plane! It's More News About Project Natal!

Recently, at the Consumer Electronics Show, one of Microsoft's "three big points" was the announcement that Project Natal would be available this holiday season. In a recent interview, Robbie Bach, President of Entertainment and Devices, mentioned how 70-80% of publishers around the world are already working on games for Natal. He also stated that Microsoft would be making a few Natal-based games to "show the way" but would mostly be working on the hardware for the Xbox 360. This allows for third-party developers to come up with more innovations utilizing Project Natal. Bach also said:

The console world has changed fundamentally in a very important way: Innovation doesn't require new hardware. The fact that we can deliver a new Xbox Live service every year is a very powerful thing and completely changes the experience without changing the console, without requiring the industry to reboot every five years.

This is great news for those of us who don't want to empty out our wallets for a new system anytime soon. We can also assume that Microsoft Game Studios will continually crank out better games over the next few years, taking advantage of the still untapped potential that the Xbox 360 has. Bach also revealed that the true reasons for showing Project Natal at last year's E3 was so third-party publishers could know that it was real and that Microsoft wanted them to have developer kits to get them working with it. Needless to say, this year is definitely going to be an exciting one and I am looking forward to picking up my own Project Natal and start painting my own elephants.
