Will Wright's Stupid Fun Club

In April, Will Wright (creator of the Sims games, such as Sim City) surprised the industry when he announced he was leaving EA Maxis, a company he had worked for seemingly since the dawn of time. After his departure, he started a new company, Stupid Fun Club. As Will is known to do, he gave no indication about what he was up to.

Lucky for us, he gave an interview to VentureBeat in which he said he is working on three projects, a couple of which are games.

We are very small and will stay small... We are 12 people right now. I don't ever want it to go above 30. We're looking to partners to help develop games. We want to be more of an early design shop, doing research and development.

So, his idea is to be the idea guy and let other people do the development. I can actually support this idea for him. His master work, Spore took him 10 years to produce, partially because development isn't really his forte. Letting Will and his team come up with the great ideas and passing them off to professional developers could have decreased Spore's production time significantly.

He says his first product could be on the market within a year, which certainly goes to prove my point. Of course, there is no concrete evidence that the first product would be a videogame, so it might not matter to us much anyway. What do you think of Will Wright's new business setup?
