Mars Rover Forces Molyneux to Change Name of Upcoming 22 Can Game Curiosity

Ever since the announcement at E3, we were curious about Curiosity and we're not talking about the Mars rover, although the NASA project has a lot to do with this whole story. I'm actually referring to the game by Peter Molyneux's new company, 22 Can. The 30 second trailer left a lot of questions and last month, Molyneux finally went into detail about this mysterious free-to-play game that had you whack away at a box until the prize came out. We could have just called it Piñata: The Cube-in-a-White-Room Edition, but I digress.

Anyway, we were told that you could play for free or even buy tools, including a $50,000 diamond pickax, to chip away at a box and the prize would be revealed. This game would be played by (hopefully) millions and at some point the box would break. We also knew the game would be playable on iOS, Android and PC. Well, this week some of the details have changed.

The name and release date have changed already and I'm sure there's more in store for us before we can download the title. What's the update? We have the details after the break.

Because of the insane amount of popularity that came out of the Curiosity Mars rover, Peter Molyneaux has decided to rename the upcoming game from 22 Can. He first started by asking his Twitter followers for ideas and shortly after posted a list of final options. A few hours later, the decision was made "after hours of posting, collating office discussions." He then posted the following,

Asking advice from the press the consensus is… the new name of Curiosity is… don't get angry… its "Curiosity:Whats inside the cube." Not what i voted for but ho hum. I wanted to call it "Cube of Duty."... Logic and common sense has won out. thank you all so much for your suggestions. Some truly inspired posts.

Removing some of the typographical errors in his 160-character posts, the name of the game with few details is Curiosity: What's Inside the Cube?

You'll also notice we're beyond the August 22nd initial launch date at this time. Molyneux said that the game was pushed back to "sometime" in September but did not cite any specific reasons as to why. Maybe they needed more time apart from the amazing landing that was the Curiosity Mars rover? At any rate, they did leave us with a new trailer, although not much more can be deciphered from it. The trailer has just given me more reason to want to download this game and see what it's all about. You can check it out below and then let us know in the comments what you think about the new name, what the game will be and if you'll be playing. You can also send us some donations for that $50,000 pickax. Our PayPal account will be waiting...
